HAND DRAWING & RENDERING
MADE values artistic practice as the foundation of good design. The Architectural Drafting and Design curriculum centers around the belief that students who master manual drafting and technical drawing skills are better prepared to utilize using digital software and adapt to the continual changes in software programs.
Courses help students develop strong drawing skills through rigorous practice and individualized guidance from professors. In the Basic Drafting class, students learn foundational techniques of 2- and 3-point perspective drawing and orthographic drawing to illustrate architectural structures and features. They acquire the essential skills of producing accurate sketches, plans and elevations by hand according to specific criteria, as well as how to add appropriate lettering and notes required for the project. In the Architectural Rendering class, students add color, texture, and volume to their drawing skill set using advanced marker techniques. In this class, students learn to visualize their complete architectural project with realistic simulations of flooring, wall finishes, textiles and lighting in full color. The goal is to produce vivid, expressive drawings that add life to proposals and help the client get a feel for what the finished product will be like.
